DFW FRIA Update

DFW FRIA Update

We have been working with the FPV Freedom Coalition to submit applications for FAA Recognized Identification Areas - FRIAs. This will allow RC enthusiasts following the guidance of a CBO to legally fly in the predetermined area without a remote ID broadcast system. Applications are expected to take many months to be approved. We've had our initial focus on two different locations in DFW to begin with.

Mallard Cove Park, Fort Worth

Mallard Cove Park is located near Woodhaven in east Fort Worth. This is a common location for RC enthusiasts, and DFWFPV has events here throughout the year. It has three large areas to fly: a long field near a playground, a larger field, and a wooded area around a pond.

We have submitted an application for the FAAs approval on February 8th, 2023.

Harry Myers Park, Rockwall

Harry Myers Park is located on the east edge of DFW. This is a very large park with at least five different areas for RC hobbyists to enjoy.

As of February 8th, 2023 we are waiting on feedback from the city of Rockwall before submitting our FRIA request.

These are the first of many FRIA requests we will submit - however the approval process is not well  defined. Roadblocks and long approval times or denials are expected.

DFWFPV will continue to work with organizations like the fpvfc to assure we can continue to enjoy this great hobby.
